THE DOMAIN’S YOUNG HISTORY

In 2017, after having proven himself around the world and alongside famous winemakers, Bastien Mousset came back to Vendée. With his father’s help, Alain Mousset, Bastien gives birth to his project of having his own vineyard.

The name of the domain was chosen because it is located on the outskirts (“à l’Orée” in French) of Les Sables d’Olonne, whose inhabitants used to be called “les Sabia” in the old local dialect.

At the very beginning, for his first vintage the young winemaker initiates the conversion to organic farming for his 4.7 hectares of vines. Through new encounters, Bastien surrounds himself with a team of vine-and-wine enthusiasts. Together, they restructure the vineyard with new plantations and double-grafting of older vines. As a result of the team’s hard work during these first years, the domain now bears 9 hectares of vines and the team plans to keep up the work to reach 10 hectares in the years to come.

PHILOSOPHY

The domain as a whole is led in the spirit of craftsmanship with a strong desire to grow vines and make wines in a manner that is both as precise as possible and as respectful as possible of our nature and its ecosystem.

Every day we endeavor to achieve a viticulture of precision by guiding the vines in all the stages of their development, in a manner that favours manual labour as often as possible. Through our work we hope to have a positive impact on local biodiversity and to only leave behind us a minute trace of our stay.

In the cellar, our wish is to allow our wines to express in the best possible way the grape variety and terroir from which they originate. With that in mind, craft wines are also the reflection of the winemaker and therefore our different vintages bear traits that we particularly appreciate : freshness, finesse, fruitiness and depth. It is for these reasons that all of our wines are made with natural yeast in temperature-controlled vats and that we use different containers made from stainless steel, concrete or oak.

OUR TEAM

At l’Orée du Sabia, we are convinced that a vineyard starts thanks to the initiative of a winemaker but lives through the engagement of a whole team. This is even more true in organic farming where manual labour is a central and crucial element for the production of quality wines.

Every single vine is individually pampered and meticulously cared for around fifteen times per year.

Our young team of enthusiasts gives all of its energy day in and day out to bring its personal touch to the expression of the terroirs of Brem-sur-Mer.
