BIODYNAMICS

In biodynamics, every species—whether plant or animal—is considered a unique living being that is part of an ecosystem and evolves within it. It embodies the entire natural and energetic environment inherent to life.

In practice, lunar cycles, natural rhythms, and the use of plant- and mineral-based preparations are intended to restore balance to and revitalize this ecosystem.

FROM THE CEP TO WINE

We view each grapevine as a living, unique individual, connected to the energies of life just like a human being. Every element of the estate is interconnected and plays an essential role in the life of our vineyard: our oak grove, the various rocks that make up each soil type, our proximity to the ocean, the animal species that live there, the plants that grow there…

By constantly monitoring each vineyard, we prepare biodynamic preparations tailored to their specific needs. At the estate, we use 14 dried plants certified as organic or Demeter: valerian to protect the vines from frost, horsetail to combat downy mildew, horn manure to enrich the soil, horn silica to promote photosynthesis, and compost…

All of this only makes sense if we follow the lunar and terrestrial cycles. The Moon’s unique influence is felt from the roots all the way to the grapes. It guides our daily work—from tilling the soil and pruning the vines to bottling the wine…

More than just an agricultural technique, it is a genuine understanding of nature in the broadest sense, of respect for its rhythms and all that it has to offer.

VINEYARDS AND TERROIRS

Nestled among forests, salt marshes, and protected natural areas, the estate’s plots—which vary in topography—benefit from an extremely rich ecosystem. Brem-sur-Mer derives its terroir from the diversity of its soils, which are primarily composed of silt.

Our vineyards are planted on subsoils composed of slate, schistose sandstone, rhyolite, or granite, depending on the area. On the estate, the terroir’s identity stems from the presence of quartz—a siliceous stone used in biodynamic viticulture—and the pronounced maritime influence gives our wines lovely saline characteristics.

For as long as anyone can remember, a wide variety of grape varieties has been grown on the land around Brem-sur-Mer. Today, our vineyard is home to five of them:

Chenin, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Négrette and Gamay.

This richness of soils and the diversity of grapes grown here are a true blessing that we seize upon to offer you a range of wines with diverse expressions that reflect the interplay between a grape variety and its terroir.
